Threaded inserts are easy to install, simply drill the correct size hole and install with the provided hex key.

In softer wood, outside threads are easily cut into the wood, simply drill an appropriate size hole (8.5mm, 9mm, 9.5mm, 3/8" drill bit) for the body of the insert and then screw the insert into place.

In very hard woods like white oak or maple, drill a hole size (3/8", 9.5mm, 10mm drill bit) that is close to the outer diameter of the thread, then screw the insert into place If the drilled hole is too small for the threads, screwing it in MAY split the wood or insert.
